Hate those annoying pop-up windows? Heh...Well I sure do. This is why ever since I have experienced pop-up windows I wanted to find a way to shut them down. I've tried many and finally found a program that works as advertised. No spyware, no gimmicks...Pop-up Stopper is the real deal.

If you would like to check it out here are 3 links:

Pop-Up Stopper 2.4 (free) (http://bac-clan.com/files/downloads/misc.asp)

Pop-Up Stopper 2.9 (free) (http://download.com.com/3000-2366-10133684.html?tag=lst-0-6)

Pop-Up Stopper Pro 2.0 (pay) (http://download.com.com/3000-2366-10111490.html)

I use 2.4. I recommend the free ones. http://www.bac-clan.com/forum/images/smilies/ubb_import/smile.gif

**Tip: Set your preference so that Pop-Up Stopper will start up with Windows. Select Flash and uncheck sound to alert you of popups. If you want to allow a window to pop-up then simply press "ctrl" while clicking the link.

Understand that some websites however will use popup windows that are legitimate. http://www.bac-clan.com/forum/images/smilies/ubb_import/winkgrin2.gif

I got pop up stopper 3.0 Companion (pay).
It integrates in IE 5.x and higher automacally when installing.
Note that IE 6 users must check "tools->internet options->advanced->enable third party browsers" to enable the stopper.
Also note that flash popups won't be stopped since this is "relative" new.

To compliment Popup Stopper you might want to download "POW" from www.analogx.com. (http://www.analogx.com.) Any popups the popupstopper won't intercept can be manually disabled after encountering one. This way you can stop flash-popups. POW is free and does not integrate into anything.

A good idea might also be installing "Ad Aware" (freeware), to get rid of spyware. Then also downlad the lates database for it wich contains the latest spyware definitions.

Another idea:
When IE is running.. go to "Tools->Internet Tools->Security" and move the slider for internet zone to high and press the "Apply" button. While IE 5.x is a bit buggy with this option, IE6 implements the high security level correct.
Use this option to quickly set IE security high when browsing "risky" sites. When done, place it in medium again. This way you prevent cookies, malicious scripts etc.

Hope to help you a bit too :)

Clarification: The "Flash" is just a signal to the user that a pop-up window has been detected and closed. I wasn't referring to "Flash" file pop-up windows. http://www.bac-clan.com/forum/images/smilies/ubb_import/wave.gif

Yes I know. I hope others did too. http://www.bac-clan.com/forum/images/smilies/ubb_import/biggrin.gif

But I was referring to "flash popus", they won't be stopped by the "intelligent" popup stoppers :)
So I offered the alternative way to stop these kind of popups too.

Heheh, now I hope the reader won't be confused lol.

Same, I endorse Val's statement. I use both pop up stopper, and pop up stopper companion, IT sits in ie 6.0 right under ur address bar, has a lot of quick icon tools too. Like browser cahce clearing/cookie clearing, you can add sites to trust popups from a certain domain (say like this one if it had any).

Both programs are very good. I had a lil problem with my outdated pop up stopper pro. But I rarely use it anymore, the browser integration of pop up stopper companion makes it totally easy to use for beginners and pros alike. I highly reccomend it if you deal with pop up ads on a regular.....

BTw I also use Pop up stopper companion full.....

AS to ad aware, I highly reccomend this piece of software, especially if ur a paranoid person like me and Veng 8-p, it will scan ur drive for spywarez and remove em. Eg: progs like gator, every time u go ont eh net it colelcts data about the sites u frequent and sends it back to the software provider, tracking your every move on the net for marketing. They watch ur site traffic and sell your name to anyone who may have a site along a similar line.

Ad aware by Lavasoft its great. Thanks again Veng for pointing me to it and pop up stopper those many many months ago!
