If you're looking for a simple, stable and effective program that allows you to customize your icons without having to change your entire desktop theme, then IconPackager 2.02 may be the program for you. This small application, which is produced by Stardock (manufacturer of WindowBlinds and other desktop utilities) not only does the job, but doesn't leave your comp sluggish like many desktop utilities once you've made your icon changes. Simply choose what you want to add/change/remove and with a click here and a click there you're on your way.
IconPackager comes with a few icon themes (which I'm currently using a combination of) and has the option to add more themes via web or locally. While you can add the entire icon theme, you may do so manually (which is probably the better option). If you do not see a file-type that you would like to change you can add the file-type into the control panel for editing. If for some reason your icons did not change on apply, just go to "Tools" then "Rebuild Icon Cache" and it will automatically fix the problem. You can even restore your settings back to Windows Default or current icon state.
**If you are worried that you may lose the .dll, .exe or other file types that house your icons use a handy utility Quick Icon Grabber (to see review Click Here (http://www.netwerkin.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=000239)).
**Tip: Store your all of your icons that you use in one directory so you can always go back to it easily instead of searching through various file-types which is a pain.
