ok here's the problem:

sometimes when i format my HD disappear

i got 3 partitions

c: d: and e:

now when i format i can only see c: and d: (this happens just some times)

e: (60mb safty disk) become d: (of course) and i lost my 20 GB partion called d: (th original 1)

ANYHOW!

is there an EASY! way to rescue my e: 20gigs partition without format 1 more time?

let me know dont ignore this post!

formating should even get rid of partitions i thought unless you tell it to make one when you set it up again... unless computers in europe are like super strange for some reason. so my only thought would be to run scandisk(the thurough one) my computer found 5 gigs on my hardrive that way once, and if not youll probabally have to do a complete format. course i would be the like 4th person you should take advice from on this.

Formatting occurs on partition level. This means u format one certain partition, then the other, then the other, then the other...

So formatting will not remove any partitions. It only prepares the partition for use with a certain filesystem . FAT 32 system for most home-users.

On the other hand... LOW LEVEL formatting will remove any existing partitions and data (only 99% true for the "data part").
But since the HDD's of today are of such good quality, this LOW LEVEL formatting feature is often not present anymore in the BIOS of the computer.

----------------------------------------------

Now to the problem of DarkMonster.
The fact that u dont see the partition anymore (often your 20Gb D partition like u said) means often that physiscal errors occur. Or the operating system has difficulties in recognising the HDD driver (motherboard related problem).

Physical:
This can have mainly 2 problems:
1) The magnetism of the HDD is incorrect wich can be corrected by a LOW LEVEL format.
2) Incorrect elctric pulses. This occurs in a situation when the BIOS is (temporary corrupted).
The solution is a (re)flashing the BIOS.

Motherboard:
Check the motherboard-manual for known issues in relation with your operating system. Maybe a patch (on the motherboard CD-rom) will help u out.

Check for any issues on the website of your motherboard manufacturer.

Last step:
Cleaning your harddisk the hard way!
- Use FORMAT A: /U/S to create the system floppy diskette.
- Copy DEBUG.COM, FDISK.COM, SYS.COM, FORMAT.COM and CHKDSK.COM or CHKDSK.EXE from the DOS directory
to the diskette.
- Boot from the diskette, and enter DEBUG to start the debug
utility, and enter the following lines followed by the <ENTER> key:

F 200 L 200 0
a 100
mov ax,301
mov bx,200
mov cx,1
mov dx,0080
int 13
int 3
(hit ENTER to enter a blank line here!!!)
G=100

This snippet of code will clean your Master Boot Record the hard way, and thus allowing u to re-partition your HDD and reformat it eventually.
NOTE: You will lose EVERYTHING on your hdd if you do this LAST and DESPERATE step!
--------

Well, for the moment I have no ready and steady ideas for you. In my case I would have figured this thing out step by step like I described all above.

Good luck!

First off...Val is pretty much on point...but...
If your disk is "dissapearing" after a format, this is usually because fdisk wasnt configured properly....or because the file system ISNT fat32.
The only OS that will recognize NTFS is Win2k, NT, and XP.
Make sure that you check the partition in fdisk.
Also make sure that the hard drive isnt using a conflicting I/O address.
Just go into your hardware profile and make sure that there is no yellow exclamation points.

If you need more help...ICQ me.

Hmm...I had one issue where the the hard drives switched (letter) positions. It did that only once but never gave me a problem accessing it. Now, sometimes one of my hard drives disappear (I'm using FAT32) when I boot up. Because the files on the disappearing hard drive was never erased, it still existed but the system didn't recognize the hard drive. To resolve that I just rebooted my comp and it appeared again.

I think your problem however is quite different. Maybe Ghost can help as well.
