Sometimes when you install a program (say a music utility) and opt to use it as a default player or associate it with certain file-types the icon will normally change to go with the program. If however you decide to uninstall the program the icons may not always revert to the previous settings and instead display a generic file. While there are .dll and .exe files that stores icons (.ico, icl) it in many times are hidden from direct view...

Most of the time the "find" feature will not work and searching the files manually is a pain and a chore. Well, while there are many progs out there I found Quick Icon Grabber 2.5 to work as advertised!

With Icon Grabber I was able to retrieve the hidden files (such as the video and music Windows default icons) with a couple clicks. The program stores the grabbed files and stores it in a temp directory of your choice. After doing so you can copy/cut and paste the files onto a permanent directory, edit your file settings back to the icons of your choice. It even can save the files into other image file types (.ico, .bmp, .gif and .jpg).

There is also a manual and auto grab option when seeking icon files. This is an awesome program and I recommend it. Here are the sites:

I'll be testing another prog (I think it's in the same category) called "Drop Folder Pro".

Anyway, try Quick Icon Grabber...You'll have fun! http://www.bac-clan.com/forum/images/smilies/ubb_import/smile.gif
